GAINESVILLE (March 4) – Senior Nadia Fingall of Choctawhatchee High School has been named the 2016 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school coaches and media representatives.

Fingall, a 6-4 center who is a 2016 McDonald’s All-American and has signed with Stanford University, averaged 18.3 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.0 blocks per game in leading the Indians to a 26-6 record and a spot in the Class 6A Final Four.

In the closest vote in the 24-year history of the Miss Basketball award, Fingall, who was earlier named the Class 6A player of the year, totaled 115 points to finish just ahead of Class 2A POY and University of Louisville signee Jazmine Jones from Florida A&M University Developmental Research School (111) and Class 8A POY and Yale University signee Megan Gorman of Vero Beach (108).

Class 4A POY and University of Alabama signee Jordan Lewis of Lake Highland Prep finished fourth (89), with Class 5A POY Rennia Davis of Ribault (83) in fifth place. Rounding out the voting in order were 7A POY and Bethune-Cookman signee Kanesha Battle from Blanche Ely (68), Class 3A POY and University of Southern California signee Ja’Tavia Tapley of University Christian (64) and Class 1A POY Jameica Cobb of Madison County (46).

The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This is the 24th year of these unique awards as we honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
