2020 Mr. Football class release

GAINESVILLE (January 6) — The finalists for the 2020 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football and Football Coach of the Year have been announced following balloting by a statewide panel of high school football coaches and prep media representatives.

Every finalist was the leading vote-getter in his classification, making each one the Player of the Year or Coach of the Year in his class. The two overall winners will be announced following a final round of balloting by coaches and media.

2020 Mr. Football Finalists (Area players in bold)

Bobby McMillian, Senior, Running Back, Vero Beach, Class 8A Player of the Year
Rushed for 1,116 yards on 165 carries (6.8 avg.) with 20 TDs. Caught 37 passes for 419 yards and 4 TDs. Signed with Arkansas State University.

Trey Wainwright, Senior, Quarterback, Niceville, Class 7A Player of the Year
Led his team to an 11-1 record and a spot in the state Final Four by completing 133-of-184 passes (72.3%) for 2,584 yards with 33 TDs and 3 interceptions.

Jaylon Glover, Junior, Running Back, Lake Gibson, Class 6A Player of the Year
Rushed for 1,588 yards on 161 carries (9.9 avg.) with 31 TDs. Had 10 receptions for 155 yards and 3 TDs.

Joseph Pesansky, Senior, Quarterback, Tampa Jesuit, Class 5A Player of the Year
Led his team to a 14-1 record and a spot in the state Final Four by completing 164-of-259 passes (63.3%) for 2,930 yards with 35 TDs and 5 interceptions. Signed with Holy Cross.

DJ Arroyo, Senior, Quarterback, Cocoa, Class 4A Player of the Year
Led his team to a 10-1 record and a spot in the state Final Four by completing 174-of-227 passes (76.7%) for 2,708 yards with 21 TDs and 7 interceptions.

Jay Allen, Senior, Quarterback, John Carroll, Class 3A Player of the Year
Led his team to a 9-2 record by completing 125-of-233 passes for 2,417 yards with 29 TDs and 9 interceptions. Also rushed for 255 yards and 4 TDs. Has committed to play baseball at the University of Florida.

Tyous Taylor, Senior, Quarterback, Champagnat Catholic, Class 2A Player of the Year
Led his team to the state championship by completing 123-of-173 passes for 2,165 yards with 36 TDs and 5 interceptions.

Joe Brunson, Senior, Running Back, Class 1A Player of the Year
Led his team to the state championship by rushing for 2,519 yards on 340 carries (7.4 avg.) and 28 TDs. On defense, he had 60 tackles with three interceptions. Signed with Reinhardt University.

Jaeden Dunning, Senior, Athlete, Tampa Bay Christian, Independent Player of the Year
Combined for more than 1,000 rushing and receiving yards on offense. Defensively, had 80 tackles plus four interceptions.

2020 Football Coach of the Year Finalists:

Eric Lodge, Seminole, Class 8A Coach of the Year
In his first year as a head coach after four years as Seminole’s defensive coordinator, Lodge led his squad to a 12-0 record and the Class 8A state title.

Cameron Duke, Edgewater, Class 7A Coach of the Year
Led his team to an 8-3 record and a second straight state runnerup finish. Also advanced to the state Final Four in 2018. In four years at Edgewater has posted a 42-10 record after serving as head coach at Lake Highland Prep for three years.

Walter Banks, Lake Minneola, Class 6A Coach of the Year
Led his team to an 11-2 record and a state runnerup finish, becoming the first Lake County school to play for the state title since 1983. Took over the program in 2015 and has posted a 37-29 record, with a 20-6 mark the past two years.

Quintin Lewis, Rickards, Class 5A Coach of the Year
Led his team to a 10-2 record and a state runnerup finish. In nine years at Rickards, Lewis has posted a 64-37 record.

Matt DuBuc, Cardinal Gibbons, Class 4A Coach of the Year
DuBuc led his squad to an 8-1 record and the Class 4A state title. In five years at Cardinal Gibbons, he has compiled a 52-10 record, including the 2018 Class 5A state championship.

Verlon Dorminey, Trinity Christian (Jacksonville), Class 3A Coach of the Year
Led his team to a 12-1 record and the state title, knocking off three-time defending champion Chaminade-Madonna for the title. It was the eighth state title for Dorminey, who has posted a 296-76 record in 30 years at Trinity Christian.

Hector Clavijo, Champagnat Catholic, Class 2A Coach of the Year
Led his team to an 11-2 record and a second straight Class 2A state title. In three years at Champagnat, Clavijo has posted a 30-11 record with a state runnerup finish in 2018 to go with his two state championship wins.

Matt Brunson, Baker, Class 1A Coach of the Year
Led his team to a 14-0 record and the school’s first state title since 1993. In 10 years at Baker, he has compiled a 106-18 record with six straight Final Four appearances and two state runnerup finishes. In 24 years at Vernon (35-12), Crestview (64-40) and Baker he has posted a 205-70 record.

Guerschom Demosthenes, Orlando Christian Prep, Independent Coach of the Year
Led his team to an 8-2 record and the Sunshine State Athletic Conference state championship. In seven years at OCP, he has compiled a 64-19 record with another SSAC championship in 2018.
