October 9th, 6:00pm – Mike and Marty are going to go over the district standings and recap the football season up to this point. It’s been a fun football season so far, hard to believe that we are at the halfway point. As always, the new Power Poll will be released and we’ll recognize our Sonic Players-of-the-Game from last week and the Trophy Shop Athlete-of-the-Week. Sonic Player-of-the-Game

  • Thursday, October 4, was Sir Jackson of the Eastside (Gainesville) football team.The senior did it all for the Rams (3-3, 2-0) in a 35-14 win over Belleview in a Class 5A-District 5 game. Jackson had 129 yards rushing and five touchdowns (two rushing, two passing and one punt return). He had what proved to be the game-winning TD in the second quarter on a 73-yard punt return for a score as the Rams built a 21-14 lead at the half.
  • Friday, October 5, was Danny Stirt of the Oak Hall (Gainesville) football team. Stirt was all over the field for the Eagles as Oak Hall defeated district rival St. Francis Catholic, 17-14.  The senior threw for 74 yards and a TD, rushed for 49 yards and a score, registered nine tackles, an interception and two pass break-ups.  On special teams, he was 2-for-2 on extra points, kicked a 33-yard field goal and punted for a 35.5 yard average – all in very wet conditions.

Trophy Shop Athlete-of-the-Week Presented by Mark McGriff’s State Farm Insurance of Gainesville for the week of October 1.

  • Walter Mabrey of the Union County (Lake Butler) football team. The two-way starter helped lead Union County (6-0, 2-0) to another come-from-behind win.  Mabrey scored on a 47-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second half to tie the game at 14-all en route to 28 unanswered points in a 28-14 win at Dixie County (Cross City) in a Class 1A-District 7 game.  Mabrey, who leads the team with 504 yards rushing, added a 49-yard scoring run in the second half and finished with 147 yards on just nine carries.  He also made five tackles from his linebacker position.
