Friday night the Gainesville High School Hurricanes will be playing host to the North Marion Colts at Citizens Field. This will be a non-district game for the pair. The Class 6A Hurricanes currently have a 2-1 record and the 5A Colts go into the game with a 3-1 record.
Previous Game Results
Last week GHS crushed Lake Weir in Ocala, 47-24. GHS QB Luke Matthews was 23 for 30 with 303 yards, 1 TD and 2 interceptions. KZ Hutchinson was the leading rusher with 123 yards from 12 carries. Isaac Meacham led the team in receptions with 185 yards on 15 catches.
The North Marion Colts are coming off a huge win over South Sumter (Bushnell), 44-0, also on the road. The Colts actually scored all of their points in the first half. North Marion had five rushing TD’s, one passing TD, and one FG in the game.
The Stats and Top Players
Both teams seem to score the majority of their points in the 1st half. North Marion averages 30 points with 19.4 coming from the opening half. GHS averages 34.3 points per game with an average of 22 points in the first half.
North Marion leads GHS with 173 rushing yards per game compared to the Hurricanes’ 138.3 yards. However, GHS leads in passing yards per game with 322 yards compared to North Marion’s 124 yards.
GHS senior QB Luke Matthews averages 319.7 total yards per game. Junior RB KZ Hutchinson is the Hurricane’s leading rusher with an average of 51.7 yards per game. On Defense, junior CB/FS Michael Cromarty averages 7.3 tackles per game.
For North Marion, senior RB Joleeco Gaskin II is the team’s leading rusher and leader in total yards averaging 153 yards per game. Senior QB Corey Wilsher averages 153 passing yards per game. On the defensive side of the ball, junior safety Luke Rose averages 10 tackles per game.

The Game will be at Citizens Field on 09/21/18 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on 92.1 FM in Gainesville and 100.1 FM in Ocala.
