Sonic Player-of-the-Game
- Thursday, November 1, was Bryce Goston of the Buchholz (Gainesville) football team. Goston accounted for four touchdowns as Buchholz defeated West Port (Ocala), 34-7, and clinched its first playoff spot in four years. The senior QB had two TD’s on the ground and two through the air for the Bobcats (5-5), including the game-winning 26-yard TD pass to Jared Goar in the opening half.
Trophy Shop Athlete-of-the-Week Presented by Mark McGriff’s State Farm Insurance of Gainesville for the week of October 29
- Wesley Olmsted of the Eastside (Gainesville) boys’ swim team. At the Class 2A-Region 2 meet in Titusville, Olmsted matched his own school record with a time of 20.98 (which he set at last year’s Class 2A state meet) in the 50-yard freestyle. The junior also won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.30. Both marks are All-American consideration. He swam the fastest butterfly leg (22.82) during the 200-yard medley relay as the Rams finished sixth with a school-record time of 1:46.17. Olmsted also had the fastest split time (21.00) of any swimmer in the 200-yard freestyle relay race.
