Hawthorne football preview

Published:

Hawthorne_Hornets footballHawthorne Hornets (Class 1A-District 6)

2013 Record: 2-8

Head Coach: Ellis Walker, Jr.

Key Players: Torres Williams (QB/SS/DE, Sr.), Rodney Sommons (WR/CB/RB. Sr.), Dionte Mann (MLB/TE/FB, Sr.), Kenny Sykes (C/DT, Sr.), Colton Adkins (OT/DT/LB, Sr.), Tra Mann (CB/WB, So.), Jamell Bradshaw (TE/DE, Jr.)

Outlook: Despite only winning two games last season, the Hornets did make progress in Walker’s second season after a winless campaign in 2012. In fact, they snapped a 17-game losing streak mid-season with a convincing 82-0 win over Jacksonville Seacoast Christian. This year, the Hornets will have seven starters returning on offense and six starters back on defense. Walker said he feels good about this upcoming season.

“We are a young team and these young men are buying in,” he said. “Hard work pays off so they are hitting the weight room and conditioning hard. We have a tough five-team district with state champ Trenton paving the way, so it will be good.”
