GAINESVILLE (January 13) – Senior quarterback Trey Wainwright of Niceville High School has been named the 2020 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school football coaches and media representatives.
Wainwright, who was previously selected as the Class 7A Player of the Year led Niceville to an 11-1 record and a spot in the state Final Four by completing 152-of-210 passes (72.4% completion rate) for 2,752 yards with 34 touchdown passes and only three interceptions.
Wainwright captured 11 of the 27 first-place votes to finish with 165 points. Class 5A POY Joseph Pesansky of Tampa Jesuit finished as the runnerup in the voting, receiving five first-place votes and finishing with 96 points.
Class 6A POY Jaylon Glover of Lake Gibson finished third with four first-place votes and 92 points followed by Class 1A POY Joe Brunson of Baker (54), Class 8A POY Bobby McMillian of Vero Beach (46), Class 2A POY Tyous Taylor of Champagnat Catholic (36), Class 4A POY DJ Arroyo of Cocoa (22), Class 3A POY Jay Allen of John Carroll (20) and Independent POY Jaeden Dunning of Tampa Bay Christian (5).
The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This marks the 29th year of these unique awards as we honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
