20. Warner Christian (South Daytona) (2A) (9-2) – 19
Head coach D.J. Mayo, a standout player for Warner’s first varsity team in 1997, is back as the head coach. Warner Christian has been a perennial power in the Daytona area with a total of six district titles, five region championships and three state runner-up finishes in the past six years.
Mayo installed a hurry-up offense for this year’s team, which is young but skilled. Senior running back Demaris Tillmon totaled 1,782 offensive yards as a junior. Sophomore basketball player Anthony Butler came out in the spring and showed some promise as a quarterback.
“I think we’ve got an assortment of guys that are capable,” Mayo told *FNF. “They just haven’t done it under the lights yet.”
Warner went into the regime change needing added depth and expecting to see some new players arrive during the offseason.
