The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Thursday, April 27, is Jaxson Lamb of the Oak Hall (Gainesville) lacrosse team.
Lamb, a senior, tied a game-high with four goals, including three in the third period, as Oak Hall trounced Bolles (Jacksonville), 14-1, in an FHSAA Regional Quarterfinal game Friday night on the Eagles’ home field.
The game stayed scoreless for the first nine minutes of the opening period before Lamb, who also had two assists, broke the scoreless draw on a goal with 2:49 left in the first period.
Junior Ryan O’Leary notched the first of his four goals a minute later, and Oak Hall led 2-0 after the first period.
The Eagles started pulling away in the second period as O’Leary added two more tallies and junior Kyle Cox had two goals of his own. Meanwhile, Oak Hall’s defense kept Bolles off the scoreboard in the first half, leading 6-0 at intermission.
Oak Hall added five more goals in the third period, with Lamb netting three of those and senior Jacob Hicks and senior Chris Keel adding a goal apiece.
Bolles got its only goal in the third quarter, as freshman Jack Mulvey got the Bulldogs on the board with 7:19 left in the period. But Bolles still trailed 11-1 heading to the fourth quarter.
O’Leary and Keel scored once again in the final period with freshman Ben Moraski scoring his only goal of the game as well. The last six minutes of the fourth quarter were played with a running clock as Oak Hall extended it’s lead to 13-1 after Keel’s second goal.
Oak Hall improves to 15-2 and avenges a loss to Bolles in the opening round of the playoffs in 2016, as well as a double-overtime loss to the Bulldogs during the regular season last year. The Eagles will travel to undefeated Gulf Breeze on Tuesday in the regional semifinals.
Bolles, which also beat Buchholz (Gainesville) in last year’s opening round, finishes its season at 7-14.
