The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Monday, Oct. 3, was Kyree Edwards of the Williston football team.
Edwards carried the ball 19 times for 216 yards and rushed for three touchdowns as the Red Devils stayed unbeaten with a 42-19 win against visiting Newberry in a Class 1R-Region 4 game.
The senior scored on a 39-yard touchdown run to give Williston a 14-7 lead with 3:46 to play in the opening quarter.
He added scoring runs of 29 and 32 yards, rushing for 100 yards alone on scoring plays.
“My O-Line did their part,” he said. “Without them nothing was possible so I give all the credit to them.”
Edwards, who also had a 43-yard touchdown run called back due to a block in the back, said “hard work and dedication” have been the reason the Red Devils are still undefeated.
“We’re putting in the work and the work is paying off,” he said.
Williston (5-0) is back at home this Friday. The Red Devils will host Lake Weir (Ocala) on Friday, Oct. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
Every game The Prep Zone will recognize a Player-of-the-Game. The recipient receives a $10 gift certificate courtesy of Sonic Drive-In of Gainesville & Ocala.
