Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for October 1 – Cole Gonzales (Oak Hall)

Sonic-logoThe Sonic Drive-In-Player-of-the-Game for Monday, October 1, is Cole Gonzales of the Oak Hall (Gainesville) football team.

Gonzales helped lead the Eagles to a 42-36 against rival St. Francis Catholic Academy. The freshman quarterback had a TD pass but also two interceptions on defense in a key Class 2A-Region 2 game.

His 37-yard TD pass to Bert Moraski gave the Eagles the early lead in the third quarter after trailing at the half, 22-21.Cole Gonzales Oak Hall FB  Oak Hall never trailed again in the game.

The visiting Wolves (3-3), who are off this week, still had hope late, possessing the ball with less than 30 seconds to play, but St. Francis Catholic quarterback Calvin Littles’ pass was tipped and Gonzales picked it off to seal the victory.

Senior running backs Ryan O’Leary and Thomas George combining for 315 yards and five touchdowns as the Eagles improved to 3-2. They will travel to Maclay (Tallahassee) this Friday.
