The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Friday, Oct. 12, is Deron Reid of the Santa Fe (Alachua) football team.
The junior helped lead the Raiders to their second straight victory, a 44-29 win on Homecoming against visiting Trinity Catholic (Ocala).
Reid scored on an 8-yard run just two minutes into the game to give Santa Fe an early 7-0 lead. It stayed that way until the second quarter.
Following a safety and a Celtics’ touchdown, the Raiders trailed 9-7 with 4:38 to play in the half. However, Reid scored the second of his three touchdowns with a 59-yard scoring reception from quarterback Jorgen Salazar.
In the fourth quarter, with the game still in doubt, Reid faked a punt and returned it 53 yards for the score with just four seconds remaining in the game to put the final nail in the coffin.
Santa Fe (4-3) will look to make it three wins in a row this Thursday night when the Raiders host the unbeaten Class 3A Baldwin Indians.
Every game The Prep Zone will recognize a Player-of-the-Game. The recipient receives a $10 gift certificate courtesy of Sonic Drive-In of Gainesville & Ocala.
