Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Wednesday, Jan. 4 – Jacob Sterck (Buchholz)

Published:

The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Wednesday, Jan. 4, was Jacob Sterck of the Buchholz (Gainesville) boys basketball team.

Sterck had a monster game with a game-high 33 points as Buchholz defeated cross-town rival P.K. Yonge, 78-63, at home.

The senior scored 21 points in the second half, including a 13-point third quarter, as the Bobcats pulled away in the second half. Sterck, who finished with five 3-pointers, drained a trey for a 43-30 lead in the third quarter. It was one of three shots that he made behind the arc in the quarter.

“I think his play comes from us being really unselfish and getting the right shot for Buchholz, not the right shot for the kid,” said Buchholz coach Blake Golden. “That’s where we’ve tried to be all year but it hasn’t necessarily happened. Tonight, was a perfect example of that.”

Buchholz, which improved to 8-8, will host city rival Gainesville on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be audio streamed online at MainStreetDailyNews.com.

Every game The Prep Zone will recognize a Player-of-the-Game. The recipient receives a $10 gift certificate courtesy of Sonic Drive-In of Gainesville & Ocala.
