Providence (Jacksonville) & Mainland (Daytona Beach) remain 1-2 in the all-classification regional rankings
GAINESVILLE – Providence (Jacksonville) is still the No. 1 ranked team in The Prep Zone Power Poll.
The Stallions (17-2) edged Bolles (Jacksonville), 43-41, dropping the Bulldogs (15-4) from eighth to 10th in this week’s ranking. They also defeated University Christian (Jacksonville), which fell from sixth to seventh.
Providence went 3-0 last week to run its win streak to six. They received six of the seven first-place votes in the all-classification regional rankings.
Mainland (Daytona Beach) picked up the other first-place vote.
The Bucs (21-1) and Stallions (17-2) had a common opponent last week – North Florida Educational Institute (Jacksonville). Providence won by 23 and Mainland won by nine.
Most of the top five remained the same. However, P.K. Yonge and Hawthorne flip-flopped.
P.K. Yonge (Gainesville) moved up one spot from fourth to third following a 4-0 week, which included a 64-58 win at home against defending 1A state champion Wildwood. The Blue Wave (16-1) also won their sixth in a row.
Hawthorne dropped from third to fourth after a 1-0 week, a 59-39 district win against Hilliard.
Fleming Island (Orange Park) holds at No. 5. The Golden Eagles (13-1) defeated Buchholz (Gainesville) and Oakleaf (Orange Park) as part of a 2-0 week.
Palatka, University Christian, Eastside (Gainesville), The Villages and Bolles (Jacksonville) round out the top 10.
Previous No. 13 Impact Christian Academy (Jacksonville) and Santa Fe (Alachua) dropped out, while Class 7A schools Columbia (Lake City) and Deltona moved into the rankings at 18th and 20th, respectively.
The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
