The Prep Zone Power Poll – 2018-19 Girls Basketball Poll #3

GAINESVILLE – Nease (Ponte Vedra) is still the No. 1 team in The Prep Zone Power Poll.

And like their margin of victory, it’s not even close.

The Panthers (17-1), who went 2-0 last week with an average margin of victory of 61 points, received all eight first-place votes to stay No. 1.

P.K. Yonge (Gainesville) moved up one spot from third to second. The Lady Blue Wave (17-1) defeated previous No. 15 Trenton, which dropped to 20th, to cap a 3-0 week.

Previous No. 2 Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) lost at previous #6 Father Lopez (Daytona Beach), 57-26. The loss snapped a 12-game winning streak for the Lady Crusaders (17-2), who dropped four spots to sixth.

Father Lopez also defeated previous No. 11 Bolles (Jacksonville), 47-44, as part of a 3-0 week and moved up three spots from sixth to third. It was the eighth straight win for the Lady Green Wave (16-2).

Spruce (Port Orange) and Middleburg (13-3) round out the top five.Nease Panthers

The 4th-ranked Hawks (15-3) defeated previous #4 Sandalwood (Jacksonville), 53-50, which dropped the Lady Saints (10-4) three spots to seventh.

Following Bishop Kenny in the second five are No. 7 Sandalwood, Fernandina Beach at No. 8, while Jacksonville rivals Raines and Ribault round out the top 10 at ninth & 10th, respectively.

New to the rankings this week is Vanguard (Ocala) at No. 18.

The Class 7A Knights went 2-0, including a 57-40 win at previous No. 20 Columbia (Lake City), which dropped out of the rankings, and a 51-48 win against non-FHSAA member The Rock (Gainesville).

The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Madison, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
