Our Sonic Player-of-the-game for Thursday, Jan. 26, is Christian Miller-Cardwell of the Gainesville boys’ basketball team.
It’s turning into quite the week for Miller-Cardwell. The junior, who was recognized as Sonic Player-of-the-game on Tuesday following a big night at Forest (Ocala), turned in another big effort for the Purple Hurricanes against neighboring county rival Vanguard (Ocala).
In a tense game that came down to the wire, Gainesville High School walked away with a win against the visiting Knights by a score of 51-48 in a battle for first place in 7A-District 4. Leading the way for the Hurricanes (19-2, 7-1) was Miller-Cardwell, who led both GHS and Vanguard (15-6, 7-1) with 16 points, including seven in the final quarter.
Miller-Cardwell has been a crucial part of the Hurricanes’ team and a major contributor to the success they’ve had on the court this season. He has been averaging nearly 15 points a game and has shown his consistency throughout the season.
A coin toss was used to determine the top overall seed. The Hurricanes won the toss and will host the 7A-District 4 tournament as the No. 1 seed. They’ll look to Christian Miller-Cardwell to continue putting up numbers if they want to go far.
Every game The Prep Zone will recognize a Sonic Player-of-the-Game. The recipient receives a $10 gift card & certificate courtesy of Sonic of Gainesville & Ocala.
