On Friday, the Williston Red Devils will travel to face off against the Ft. White Indians. Williston (1-3) will be looking to pick up its second win of the year after defeating Newberry last Friday, 42-28. Ft. White is attempting to get back on track after losing to Bradford (Starke), 21-14, on the same day.
Williston was led last week by star senior running back/cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. He piled up 210 yards rushing and three touchdowns, to go along with two interceptions in a game that really exemplified how complete of a player he is for the Devils.
Mitchell was the main star on Friday, but he was aided by an efficient game from senior quarterback CJ Strange. Strange threw for 148 yards on 13 attempts, with 98 of those and a touchdown going to senior wide receiver Jermon Collins. Strange also ran in a touchdown to keep the scoring going for Williston.
Ft. White had a rough game last week, losing to a Bradford team that is 2-3.
Quarterback Dylan Blair threw for 235 yards, but needed 44 throws to get there, and only had two touchdowns to three interceptions. Senior running back Stanley Maxwell was similarly ineffective, as he ran for 49 yards on 17 carries. The Indians did have two receivers eclipse 50 yards, seniors Rahman Paul and Kanell Stewart, but they will need more if they hope to beat the Red Devils.
If they are smart, they will try to get Maxwell going. Williston’s run defense just allowed 433 yards to Newberry last week, and senior Kobe Delima had 256 yards and three touchdowns against the Devils.
The game will be played in Ft. White with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
Williston is led by Coach Justin Wentworth, and Ft. White is captained by Demetric Jackson. Good luck to both teams in the game. Follow me on twitter @tcole2025 for updates during the game.
